Vacancy

The Government of Nepal (GoN) and a number of External Development Partners have for many years supported the rural and renewable energy sector in Nepal. In 1996, the GoN established the Alternative Energy Promotion Centre (AEPC) with the purpose of developing and promoting renewable energy technologies in Nepal. Since then, the AEPC has been able to establish itself as a national focal point for coordinating renewable energy related activities in Nepal and has been actively promoting the use of these energy technologies through implementation of a number of programmes and projects to meet the rural energy needs. In order to implement a single programme modality that includes all GoN/AEPC executed renewable energy projects and interventions, GoN/AEPC, and External Development Partners have designed a National Rural and Renewable Energy Programme (NRREP). The NRREP aspires to improve the living standard, increase employment and productively of rural women and men as well as reduce dependency on traditional energy and attain sustainable development through integrating the alternative energy with socio-economic activities of women and men in rural communities.

In order to implement this programme, the AEPC is seeking to recruit experts in:


Solar Energy, Biogas, Biomass, Productive End Use & Livelihood, Community Electrification, Institutional Development, Climate & Carbon, Gender Social Inclusion, Monitoring.


All positions are based in Kathmandu and qualified Nepali citizens are invited to apply for:



National Advisors: 9 positions

Main responsibilities: S/he advises the program/AEPC, and provides technical expertise and assistance to the program manager for achieving the program targets; s/he increases the technical capacity of the team; identifies and resolves issues; influences national and programme policy, and provides creative, innovative methods.
Required profile and experience: Bachelors degree in basic engineering together with Masters in relevant field +10 years experience or PhD +5 years experience in renewable energy; Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in advisory, consulting or leadership capacity in organisations related to renewable energy; Excellent written and spoken English.


Program Officers: 31 positions

Main responsibilities: S/he assists the Program Manager and the Advisor in the day to day activities; provide technical engineering inputs in related renewable energy technologies; works towards improving the project management capacity; assists in regular and general monitoring of the program activities; including Review of work and activity plans, and budget; coordinates with other on-going programmes in Nepal that has direct and indirect implication with RREP activities.
Required profile and experience: Bachelor's degree in related field +5 years relevant experience or Masters Degree +3 years relevant experience; Proven experience in implementing technical/non-technical programs related to renewable energy technology; Experience and knowledge in budgeting and reporting; Experience in designing and implementing private sector and local capacity building and in training national and sub-national staff. Excellent written and spoken English.


Assistant Program Officers: 11 positions

Main responsibilities: The Assistant Program Officer assists the Program Manager, Advisor and Program Officers in the day-to-day management of the program S/he works in; conduct field activities in technical/non-technical areas of the program; assists in preparing the field-monitoring activities; assists in maintaining master data; Co-ordinates closely and works with Data Processing Unit (DPU) staffs under the Component.
Required profile and experience: At least intermediate education/certificate in relevant field with 3 years experience or Bachelor's Degree with 2 years of experience in Renewable Energy. Proven experience in program implementation and coordination. A strong background in data management and reporting preferably within renewable energy field. Excellent written and spoken English and Nepali.

All positions require knowledge of specific gender issues in renewable energy and sensitivity to local culture and traditions in Nepal. All positions are based in Kathmandu and require travel throughout Nepal.
